First she selected a photograph and printed it out on regular paper. Then she put the photo face down on the wood and applied Heavy Gel Medium with a paintbrush. This stuff causes the ink to absorb into the wood and then the paper can be peeled off and washed away. The result is a photo imprinted in a wood block. I've never heard of this, but she did it and it worked.
Then the kids sanded the wood block. The wood block was cut with a screw hole in the middle and a square cut into the wood in the back (not going all the way through) for the clock mechanism. The kids inserted the clock mechanism and stuck on the numbers.
Then they used a wood burning tool to add their own inscription.
Another wonderful project from Amy. Thank you so much.
