Since I can't answer his numerous questions about fruit trees he has turned to youtube and the internet.
Mitchell Boyle has a series of videos on planting and growing various fruit trees. He is not an expert, but more of an experimenter himself. Watching him try various methods of getting different fruits to grow encourages my son to experiment. His enthusiasm is contagious and his commentary is comical. I can see why my son is one of his biggest fans. - Please preview this without children. He does use adult language.
He started by collecting seeds from apples, plums, peaches, and everything else we brought home from the grocery store. The seeds were wrapped in wet paper towels and sprouted in a container in the kitchen.
Once they sprouted he transplanted them into soil and labeled each one.
Now he cares for them by watering them every day.
