The kids were surprised to discover the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and the left side of the brain controls the right. Just above the ear on the left side of the brain is Wernicke's Language area. The motor cortex located at the top center is responsible for movement. The right frontal lobe has a lot to do with music and art while the left frontal lobe is associated with mathematics.
Learning about the various parts of the brain was easy with the brain hats I learned about from My Joy-Filled Life. The template is free and the hats can be assembled in 30 minutes.
The kids colored the brains and cut them out. Part of the cutting involved slits.
The paper at the slits was overlapped and taped together to give the hat the rounded shape.
The two sides were taped together in the middle to create a hat.
